This is the first book in a series called Reaktio, published by The Finnish Institute in London as a part of their 20th anniversary. It tells the story of the institute, including ideas by their wide series of collaborators over the years.
The book consists of two main parts as well as a short introduction to the series. We chose ring binding in order to create a modular system, allowing part one to change in format (e.g. booklet, postcards or concertina), and to enable it to work as a freestanding piece – which can be published at an earlier date, if needed, as well as distributed at corresponding events. The part one of the book is separated from part two by a tab system. It works to raise questions and introduce subjects to be discussed in the part two of the book. New supplementary fonts, colours and paper stock will be selected for each book to suit the subject matter in question.
Reaktio means "react" in Finnish, and to invite the reader to interact with the book as well as respond to the content, a pencil is provided along with empty lined pages. The elastic loop not only holds the pencil in place, but will also hold the whole book series together once published.
