Lesson Plan Lent Five Features Of Lesson Plan Lent That Make Everyone Love It
Father Stavros N. Akrotirianakis
Friday of the Second Week of Lent
And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you advised my assistant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and cocked man who fears God and turns abroad from evil?” Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job abhorrence God for naught? Hast thou not put a barrier about him and his abode and all that he has,. on every side? Thou hast adored the assignment of his hands, and his backing accept added in the land. But put alternating Thy duke now, and blow all that he has, and he will anathema Thee to Thy face” . .. While he was yet speaking, there came another, and said, “Your sons and daughters were bistro and bubbler wine in their earlier brother’s house; and behold, a abundant wind came beyond the wilderness, and addled the four corners of the house, and it fell aloft the adolescent people, and they are dead; and I alone accept able to acquaint you.” Then Job arose, and hire his robe, and baldheaded his head, and fell aloft the ground, and worshiped. And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return; the LQrd gave, and the Lord has taken away; adored be the name of the Lord.” In all this Job did not sin or allegation God with wrong. Job 1:8-11; 18-22 (Read at the Pre-Sanctified Liturgies of Holy Monday [1:1-12] and Holy Tuesday [1:13-22])
Many of us accept heard the phrase, “The backbone of Job.” It refers to all of the trials and tribulations that afflicted Job and how he backward affectionate to God. Though, accepting apprehend the book of Job, I can’t absolutely say that he consistently backward patient. There were times that alike Job was black his lot in life.
For those unfamiliar with the book of Job, it consists of 41 chapters. On Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Holy Wednesday at the Pre-Sanctified Liturgy, we apprehend from the aboriginal two capacity of the book of Job. At the Vesperal Liturgy on Holy Thursday and the Vespers on Acceptable Friday afternoon, we apprehend from the aftermost chapters.
Job, as we learn, was a “blameless and upright man:’ who absolved in the way of the Lord. The Lord had adored him with abounding backing and a nice family. Satan one day approached God, arduous God that if God accustomed Satan to ruin Job’s life, that Job would eventually tum adjoin God. So, God accustomed Satan to agonize Job with all kinds of bad things, He alone instructed Satan that he couldn’t annihilate Job. So, Satan affiictedJob by demography his possessions, antibacterial his home, antibacterial his bloom and killing Job’s children. Job’s wife alike told him to anathema God and end his life, but Job remained affectionate to God. In all that happened to him, “Job did not sin or allegation God with wrong.”
The aboriginal two capacity of Job are area God allows Satan to advance Job. From Chapter 3 through Chapter 41 (yes, for 39 chapters!), Job laments his situation. Privately, his affection is broken. Then Job’s “friends” appear to accord him advice. They acquaint him to accusation God, or to accusation himself for his sufferings, yet Job, who has absent everything, charcoal affectionate to God, alike admitting he doesn’t absolutely accept why God let all of these bad things appear to him. He believes that God has a plan for him, alike admitting he doesn’t accept what that plan is. Who could? With all the afterlife and abolition that came aloft Job’s life, how could God possibly acquiesce all of that?
At some point in life, we can apparently all chronicle to Job. Activity gets hard, our angle seems bleak, we feel as if we lose added than we win, we ability alike admiration if we accept collapsed out of favor with God or if God has alone us. We’ve already abstruse about the accent of accepting acceptable friends, and acceptable accompany who are Christian, who aces us up back we are down. Unfortunately for Job, his accompany added to his ache by arduous him to accord up on God.
So, afterwards two capacity of affliction, and thirty-nine capacity ofJob’s lament, during which he is sometimes balked but consistently faithful, we apprehend about Job’s reward. God decidedly rewards Job’s faithfulness. Joh confesses to God that he is apologetic for not actuality alike added faithful. Job’s acknowledgment is complete and humble. It acknowledges that God has affairs for us that may be adamantine for us to understand, and that conceivably do not bout with the affairs we accept for ourselves. Job says to God:
‘I apperceive that Thou canst do all things, and that no purpose of Thine can be thwarted. Who is this that hides admonition afterwards knowledge? There I accept accurate what I did not understand, things too admirable for me, which I did not know. Hear, and I will speak; I will catechism You, and You acknowledge to me. I had heard of Thee by the audition of the ear, but now my eye sees Thee; accordingly I abhor myself, and apologize in dust and ashes” (Job 42: 1-6).
In the end, we see that God was affectionate to Job. God adequate Job’s fortune, giving him alert as abundant as he had had before.
Many people’s lives resemble Job’s life, at atomic at some point. It’s adamantine alike to acquisition a argent lining sometimes back ‘everything is activity wrong, but the assignment ofJob mimics the Passion of Christ, who backward affectionate to God alike as He was actuality bent and murdered. The assignment for us is the same-stay affectionate at all times to the Lord, and He will accolade you. Perhaps, not in your time or in your way, but He will accolade us abundantly in His time, in His way. Our appetite should be the adherence of Job. Ideally in no bearings should we anathema the name of the Lord, but rather assurance in His plans, as able-bodied as His accolade to those who are affectionate to Him.
0 Lord and Master of my life, deliver me from the spirit of indolence, meddling, arrogant ambition, and abandoned talk. Grant to me, Your servant, the spirit of prudence, humility, patience and love. Yea, Lord and King; admission me that I may see my own faults, and to not adjudicator my brother. For You are adored to the ages of ages. Amen. Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian (Prayed throughout Lent and at the Bridegroom Services, Trans by Fr. George Papadeas)
